With Homebase, you can quickly communicate with your team using our Messages feature. Messages are delivered in real time to the Homebase mobile app, via mobile notifications (when enabled), via email (when selected) and via text (on our paid plans).

Use Messages on the Homebase mobile App
- Open your Homebase mobile app.
- Tap Messages on the lower navigation bar.
- Tap the New Message icon in the upper right corner to create a new message.
- Tap Message a Group to start a conversation with all managers, the entire team, or custom groups.
- Tap Message a Team Member to start a 1:1 conversation with anyone on the team.
- All conversations you’ve sent or received will be displayed on your Messages page.
Accessing Messages on the Homebase website
- Sign in to your Homebase account.
- Select Messages in the top navigation bar to open your messages.
- Choose employees to message, write your message, and hit Enter on your keyboard to send the message.
Homebase offers a number of groups pre-created for your business to help you communicate quickly and easily:
- Entire Team group
- Every team member at a location will be included in the Entire Team group chat. As employees join or leave your team, they’ll automatically be added or removed as participants.
- All Managers group
- Just like the Entire Team chat, however, this group consists only of managers, general managers, and owners of a location.
- Custom group
- In addition to the groups above, team members can create a 1:1 chat or group chats with a fixed number of participants. You can even have Homebase auto-select all team members who are scheduled to work today or tomorrow from the list for you. There is no limit to the number of team members who can be part of the conversation.
Read receipts are an excellent confirmation so you can know which teammates have read your message.
You can view the number of recipients who have read your messages by viewing the count displayed next to the message bubble. Tap directly on the read count number to see who has and hasn’t seen the message.
Forward, copy, and delete messages
- Locate the message you’d like to change.
- Tap and hold the message bubble.
- Select if you’d like to forward, copy, or delete your message using the buttons at the bottom of the page. (Mobile)
- Delete your sent message by using the X to the left of the message. (Web) You cannot delete another participant's messages.
- Archive a conversation in messages by swiping from right to left and tapping on the red X to declutter your list.
Downloading a message history/conversation can be helpful for compliance records.
- Sign in to your Homebase account.
- Select Settings in the top navigation bar.
- Select Team Messenger on the left navigation.
- Select Download Message Log
- All messages will be sent to your email in a document.
- This will download every participant's messages in the Homebase account.
- Every participant will be notified that their messages have been viewed by the owner.
Shout outs allow you and your employees to send notes of appreciation and recognition to teammates who stood out or went the extra mile during a shift. Shout outs are only available currently on the mobile app.
Send a shout out:
- Open the Homebase mobile app.
- Toggle to your Dashboard.
- Click the Shout Out card.
- Select the location where your teammate works.
- Here you have the option to select a person from your entire team or filter for people that have you have recently worked with.
- Tap the badge that best describes your compliment and add a message.
- Tap Share with Team.
- Your team member will get a notification when you submit your Shout Out, and your compliment will be visible on your team’s Celebration message channel.
It is only possible to send 1 shout out per day so make them count!
Make sure important announcements are seen by the whole team.
Email, notifications, and text messages can get lost during a busy workday, so we created Announcements to help you communicate important notes to your team. Announcements are sent through email, and can be "pinned" to the employee dashboard on the Homebase mobile app and on the web.
Create an Announcement:
- Select the Messages tab in the top navigation bar. You can only create Announcements using Homebase on your web browser. We hope to add this capability to mobile in the future.
- Click Messages in the top navigation bar.
- Navigate to the Announcements tab within the Messages window.
- Use the Audience field to select the team members that you want to send the Announcement to. You can also create custom groups to message specific team members.
- Compose your message.
- Select the optional “Pin to Dashboard” checkbox to display this Announcement on the Homebase app.
- Click Send Message to send this Announcement to your selected audience. The message will be sent to the audience via email and your team will see it when the login to Homebase on the web.
Un-pin an Announcement:
If the Announcement is no longer relevant and you can un-pin the Announcement from the Dashboard. Once you’ve unpinned the Announcement, you cannot re-pin that Announcement again.
- Navigate to the Announcements tab within the Messages window.
- Click into an active Announcement.
- Select the “Unpin Announcement” button to hide the Announcement from the Homebase app.
