In the Payroll world, taxes are not always simple and depending on the business, you may have mail sent to one location, but the business may operate out of a different location. Similarly, some businesses have employees all working out of the same location while others have employees working in different workplaces, and even in different states.
Homebase will ask you for some of these addresses and it can be confusing to know what to enter.
- Filing Address: Also knows as the legal address, this is your primary place of business and it should match the address you have on file with the IRS as the company's physical location. This address is used when sending returns to taxing agencies.
- Work Location/Workplace: This is the physical address (not a PO Box) where your employees are doing their work. It can be the same as the mailing or filing address as long as it's a physical address; do not enter a PO Box here. It can even vary from employee to employee depending on the nature of your business.
- Mailing Address: This is the address that can receive any physical mailings from Homebase, which is oftentimes the same address as the Filing Address.
