Apply for Wisconsin Withholding Tax Account Number

Ways to apply:

  • Online Registration. Employers can register directly with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue through My Tax Account, the agency’s online application for filing and paying business taxes. In most cases, the employer will receive an email containing the account number within 1-2 business days.
  • Online Registration - Multiple Agencies. Employers can register with both the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development through the state’s One Stop Business Registration.
  • Paper Form. Form BTR 101, Application for Wisconsin Business Tax Registration. Allow 15 business days for processing of paper applications.

Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD)

The Unemployment Insurance Division of the DWD administers the Wisconsin SUI tax. The registration section of the agency’s website is: https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/uitax/register-business.htm.

  • Online Registration - Multiple Agencies. Employers can register with both the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue through the state’s One Stop Business Registration.
  • Paper Form. Fill-in Form UCT-1-E, 2021 Wisconsin Employer Report, is used by Wisconsin employers to apply for a SUI account number and register a Wisconsin based business.
